Are You an Experienced Licensing Professional? Become a CLP

Grandfathering period closes December 31, 2007

Licensing executives will now be able to earn credentials that validate their expertise and experience, signifying to employers, licensing partners and other professionals that they are a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP). This landmark program, the culmination of much planning, was officially launched at the LES (USA & Canada) Annual Meeting in Vancouver.

Annual Meeting Sets Sail in Vancouver
The billowing white sails of Canada Place provided the perfect backdrop for an LES Annual Meeting that navigated the many facets of licensing. Vancouver opened its embrace to nearly 1,500 attendees and accompanying persons. To kick off the event, Past-President Allen Baum took center stage as the famous Agent 007, James Bond (a play on 2007), and thanked Meeting Chairs Michael Lasinski and Paul Roberts for their leadership in a meeting that was almost two years in the making.

Baum introduced two new LES initiatives at Monday’s opening session—Power Networking and the Certified Licensing Professional (CLP). Most attendees took notice of the Grandfathering Clause as a "must do" when they return to their office. (See page 1 and insert.) Power Networking, which took place throughout the entire meeting, allowed attendees to make the most of their valuable time. Pre-arranged meetings were planned and communicated to participants, who were then able to connect in comfortable spaces throughout the venue.

2007 Deals of Distinction Awarded At Annual Meeting

Intellectual property—specifically patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets—is the fundamental unit of innovation in our knowledge-based economy. Agreements that facilitate transfer of IP help establish the value for innovation. To honor the best of these deals, LES presented Deals of Distinction AwardsTM to winners in five industry sectors. The awards were given at the LES Annual Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on October 17.

"2007 has been a year of heightened debate on the importance of intellectual property," said Jake Schaible, Chair of the Deals of Distinction AwardTM Committee, and incoming Chair of the LES Healthcare Industry Sector. "In the United States and elsewhere, new patent legislation is being actively considered which may radically change the system for protecting such inventions. It is against this turbulent IP background which we announce this year’s winners of the LES Deals of Distinction Awards™."
